RGB LAN + LANFest = A Match Made in LAN Heaven

We have a lot going on behind the scenes for RGB LAN as we prepare for RGB LAN 5! We’re still working on securing the last charities before we make the announcements, and we are working on getting the ticketing system set up, so stay tuned for that. That said, we do have our biggest announcement yet to make:

RGB LAN Is officially a chapter of Lanfest

It’s official and we are proud to announce that RGB LAN has been accepted as a chapter to LANFest! Not sure what LANFest is? Check out their website, but in short, LANFest is dedicated to empowering gaming communities and supporting charitable efforts by creating unique gaming experiences. They are a non-profit organization and network of LAN parties that help each other out, pool resources, and really try to make a difference. We’ve had experience working with them in the past, whether volunteering for them, or having direct conversations, and we can’t express our excitement enough that we are officially a part of LANFest!

What does this mean for rgb lan?

On the surface, not much will change. We have absolute creative control over the LAN itself and how it runs. You don’t have to worry about RGB LAN losing that semi-chaotic energy that is so wonderfully unique to our events. That said, there are a lot of improvements you can expect. For one, the ticketing and donation system will be set up directly through the LANFest backend and website, so you’ll know exactly where you’re getting your tickets. Additionally, we will have greater access to rental machines and resources which will allow us to put a lot more into making our events even better!

What might be MOST interesting to everyone, though, is that it also means we have access to a greater prize pool for our tournaments and Midnight Madness! Because LANFest is a network of LAN parties, they are able to communicate better with other organizations and show greater power and reach, which means those organizations are more willing to donate more and better prizes to LANFest which then shares them out to everyone else. We can’t let you know specifically what the prizes will be yet, but let’s just say behind the scenes we are very excited.

IS there any risk of losing RGB LAN to LAnfest?

No. RGB LAN is here to stay. LANFest isn’t interested in taking over any individual LAN party. That’s just… a lot of work, you know? The RGB LAN staff is still the same, and that isn’t changing anytime soon. We spent a lot of time discussing this, and in the end decided we couldn’t see any down sides for us, even as fiercely independent-minded as we all are. Our biggest concern was the possibility of losing our identity to some larger structure, but we are confident that will not happen here.
